Melissa Hernandez is a dedicated public leader committed to protecting families, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for people to thrive. As the Mayor of Dublin and a BART Director, she is known for bringing people together, setting aside differences, and delivering solutions that support both public well-being and economic growth.
During her time as Mayor, Melissa championed inclusive housing, supported the growth of local businesses, and helped attract major industries, including technology and biotech companies. She prioritized policies that reduced barriers to job creation and strengthened Dublin’s economy.
In regional leadership roles, including as Chair of Valley Link and a BART Board Director, Melissa has worked to improve transportation systems, reduce congestion, and expand access to safe, reliable, and affordable public transit. She has also held leadership accountable to improve system performance and reliability.
Currently, Melissa serves as Director of Healthcare Services for Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert, where she leads efforts to expand healthcare access and improve community health outcomes. She has also been instrumental in advancing mental health initiatives and community care facilities in the Tri-Valley region.
A proud Latina leader and the first Latina to serve as Mayor of Dublin and on the BART Board of Directors, Melissa’s journey is rooted in resilience and hard work. Raised in a family of migrant farm workers, she carries forward values of determination, optimism, and service. She holds a degree in Political Science, Public Affairs & Administration from California State University, East Bay, and has over three decades of connection to the Dublin community.
