Thank You 101: Thank a Barber, Hairstylist, or Personal-Care Professional

If a barber, hairstylist, nail technician, esthetician, or another personal-care professional consistently treats you with skill and respect, thank them specifically. You might appreciate how they listen to your preferences, maintain a clean environment, explain options, respect your privacy, or help you feel comfortable.

Arrive on time, follow cancellation policies, and pay the agreed price. Where tipping is customary, tip appropriately within your means. A positive review may also be helpful when it accurately reflects your experience.

Purpose: Personal-care services require technical ability, attention, physical effort, and often considerable interpersonal skill. Specific appreciation recognizes both the result and the care involved in providing it.

A humble approach: Do not expect unpaid extra services, after-hours appointments, or priority scheduling because you are a regular customer. Avoid treating the person as an informal therapist who must listen to every personal concern. Respect their time and professional boundaries, and never photograph or record them without permission.
