Thank You 61: Thank a Bus Driver or Transportation Worker
If a bus driver, train operator, shuttle driver, station employee, or transportation worker helps you travel safely, offer a brief and respectful thank-you. This may be as simple as acknowledging the driver when you exit, thanking an employee who gave clear directions, or submitting positive feedback after someone provided exceptional assistance.
Do not distract a driver while the vehicle is moving or delay other passengers. If you want to recognize a particular employee formally, note the route, time, location, and employee name or identification number without photographing them unexpectedly.
You can also show appreciation by having your payment or pass ready, following safety instructions, keeping aisles clear, and treating shared transportation respectfully.
Purpose: Transportation employees help people reach work, school, healthcare, family, and community activities. Their attention, reliability, and safety awareness affect many lives each day, even though passengers may rarely acknowledge them personally.
A humble approach: Keep your thank-you brief when the worker is busy. Do not expect special stops, waived fares, schedule changes, or preferential assistance. Treat every employee with courtesy, not only those who provide an extra favor. Respectful behavior throughout the journey is itself an important expression of gratitude.
