The Idea: Share neighborhood information in a manner that is accurate, respectful, relevant, and appropriate to the communication channel.
Why It Matters: Responsible communication can help neighbors coordinate, understand local concerns, locate official resources, and avoid unnecessary conflict or panic.
Try It Today: Review a neighborhood message before sending it and remove speculation, personal attacks, unnecessary personal information, and unsupported claims.
Make It Work for You: Separate firsthand observations from assumptions and clearly identify official sources. Obtain permission before sharing names, addresses, photographs, health information, or private circumstances. Do not impersonate officials, diagnose neighbors, encourage vigilantism, interfere with emergency operations, or use a safety incident to shame or promote yourself. Urgent threats should be reported to the appropriate authorities rather than handled through group debate.
