The Idea: Thank a journalist whose accurate, responsible reporting helped you understand a local issue, event, organization, or community concern.
Why It Matters: Local journalism can help residents follow government decisions, public safety, schools, businesses, culture, community achievements, and matters that may receive little attention elsewhere.
Try It Today: Send a concise note mentioning a specific article, interview, photograph, broadcast, or reporting contribution you found valuable.
Make It Work for You: Distinguish appreciation from an attempt to obtain favorable coverage, suppress criticism, influence editorial judgment, or create a personal obligation. Do not offer prohibited gifts or expect a story, link, endorsement, correction, or confidential information in return. Respect professional boundaries and use established procedures for pitches, corrections, complaints, and letters to the editor.
