Community Action 315: Support a Domestic Violence Service Organization
The Idea: Contribute to a qualified organization providing confidential support, emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, legal assistance, safety planning, or other services for people affected by domestic violence.
Why It Matters: Survivors may face serious safety, housing, financial, legal, immigration, childcare, healthcare, and privacy challenges when seeking help.
Try It Today: Review an established local organization’s official donation page or current wish list and choose a safe method of support.
Make It Work for You: Protect confidentiality and follow all instructions about location privacy, communications, volunteers, photographs, and deliveries. Do not attempt to identify, contact, mediate with, transport, shelter, or counsel a survivor unless you are authorized and properly trained. Avoid publishing shelter locations or participant stories. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services when safe and appropriate; specialized hotlines can provide confidential guidance.
Take It Further: Make an unrestricted donation, support survivor housing or legal services, attend approved training, or share verified resources without identifying anyone who may need them.
