Community Action 361: Set a Community Relationship Goal
The Idea: Choose a realistic goal for developing a stronger relationship with a neighbor, nonprofit, community group, local institution, or person whose experiences differ from your own.
Why It Matters: Strong communities grow through trust, familiarity, listening, and dependable participation—not only through one-time projects or donations.
Try It Today: Identify one community relationship you would like to strengthen and choose a simple first step, such as attending an event, arranging a conversation, or learning more about an organization’s work.
Make It Work for You: Set a goal based on mutual respect rather than personal access, recognition, business development, political influence, or control. Allow relationships to develop gradually, respect privacy and boundaries, and do not expect people to share personal experiences or represent an entire community. Be dependable, listen carefully, and follow through on commitments without making the relationship transactional.
Take It Further: Schedule periodic check-ins, attend activities consistently, collaborate on an approved project, or introduce the organization to a helpful resource—with permission.
Community Connection: Relationship-building, community trust, consistent participation, and mutual understanding
