Community Action 342: Appreciate a Faith-Community Volunteer
The Idea: Recognize someone who volunteers through a church, mosque, synagogue, temple, gurdwara, or another faith-based community organization.
Why It Matters: Faith-community volunteers may support food programs, education, cultural activities, visitation, disaster response, charitable giving, hospitality, and assistance for people experiencing hardship.
Try It Today: Send a thoughtful message identifying the volunteer’s contribution and why it mattered.
Make It Work for You: Respect the organization’s beliefs, customs, leadership structure, safeguarding procedures, and recognition practices. Obtain permission before sharing names, photographs, religious affiliations, or stories involving people receiving assistance. Avoid comparing faiths, pressuring anyone to participate in religious activity, or assuming that every volunteer shares identical beliefs. Recognition should focus on genuine service rather than theological agreement or personal promotion.
