Community Action 313: Support a Homelessness Services Organization
The Idea: Assist an established organization providing shelter, outreach, housing navigation, healthcare, food, sanitation, employment support, or other services to people experiencing homelessness.
Why It Matters: Homelessness is connected to housing costs, income, health, disability, domestic violence, family disruption, discrimination, and other complex circumstances requiring coordinated responses.
Try It Today: Learn what a local service provider currently needs and whether financial contributions, supplies, volunteers, or advocacy would be most useful.
Make It Work for You: Respect participants’ dignity, privacy, safety, and right to make their own decisions. Complete required training and follow boundaries concerning photographs, personal stories, transportation, medication, cash, gifts, children, and direct contact. Do not enter encampments, conduct unsanctioned outreach, publish identifying information, or promise housing or services you cannot provide.
Take It Further: Support permanent-housing efforts, prevention programs, rental assistance, street medicine, legal services, employment programs, or coordinated local strategies.
Community Connection: Homelessness services, housing stability, human dignity, and coordinated assistance
